I loved my Essentials package! I had put it on my registry after reading about Tenth Moon Herbal Sitz Bath on a health blog. The friend who ended up purchasing it for me is someone who definitely makes an effort to honour the mama when everyone else is all about the baby. Despite adding it to my own registry, it was still such a treat to have it delivered and to unpack all the lovely goodies in such pretty packaging! At a time when everyone was bringing us more baby clothes and toys, it felt really special to have something for me, something that was thoughtfully created in recognition of my physical and emotional journey from pregnancy to motherhood. During a time of giant mesh underwear, spit-up soiled clothes, and sweaty, all-night nursing sessions, having these items in their beautiful packaging reminded me to take a moment to take care of myself as well. And the granola! I definitely scarfed it right from jar when breastfeeding hunger struck in the middle of the night, and it was the perfect thing to keep beside the bed! Clearly, a mama designed these packages knowing exactly what a woman in postpartum needs! I definitely plan to purchase this as my go-to shower gift for my friends, as I think every woman deserves some care for herself after an experience such as childbirth, and the personal needs of the mom are so often neglected at showers where the whole focus is on baby. Of course, the babies deserve celebration and having gifts to help with baby are always great, but ultimately, the woman needs to be taken care of to be the best mom to her new baby. In that sense, I think the Tenth Moon packages are still very much a gift to the baby, because what baby wouldn’t want to come into a home where their mother is well cared for?

To new moms:

Don’t be too tied to any specific parenting approach or style. Regardless of what you do, you’ll always be “wrong” in someone’s eyes, and some things just won’t work, so just do what works for you and your baby, and everyone and their opinions can go take a hike! YOU are the expert on your baby!

My Tenth Moon care package arrived as a gift from my husband’s coworkers after having my second child. In the past, we had received gift baskets full of blankets and onesies and stuffed animals for the baby. My Tenth Moon care package was so pleasantly different because it focused on care for the mother, who is often overlooked. It was filled with helpful and practical items that were easy to use. My favourites - the granola! – a lifesaver for those moments when you're starving, but don't have time to prepare something nutritious, which happens a lot in the first few weeks. The tea, sitz bath and salts were amazing! It was such a good reminder to take a few minutes to look after myself, so I could better look after my baby.

To new moms:

Ask for help, from your partner, family and friends - even if it’s just making a smoothie, doing the laundry, washing the dishes, anything.  If they offer help, take it. Don't try to be superwoman - you already are. Take time to heal and nourish your body so that you can better take care of your little one.

I just love this company and all it stands for. I was so touched to receive a Tenth Moon new mom care package from my husband, which was clearly made with love, when I had my first baby. When I received my first Tenth Moon package, I was struck by the thoughtfulness that had gone into making it. I’d never before considered the significance of a gift like that, something specifically for the mama. I loved it and felt that it was okay to take time to care for myself, even with a newborn in the house. I think every mama should be so lucky to receive such a gift - especially the delicious granola (too good to share!).
